Home Gym or Membership Gym: What's better for me?

If you're looking to start your fitness journey or if you're looking to make a change in your fitness lifestyle you may need help deciding on a home gym or a membership gym. The area where you exercise can have a large impact on your performance so making the decision to invest in a home gym or sign up for a gym membership is important.

The good thing is there is no wrong answer. Everyone is different. The key is to find the environment in which you mentally and physically excel. There are several factors to consider when choosing your fitness area.

After answering these questions you will have a better understanding of what will work best for you.

What fits your budget?

Do you prefer to pay a monthly membership or make the investment into a home gym?

Commercial gyms are expensive over time but they allow you to pay monthly so you can fit it into your budget. They also give you access to intricate equipment that would otherwise be costly.

Home gyms allow you to build at your own pace with the equipment you want. You have the freedom to create a huge fitness arena or a small yoga space.

Where can you stay focused?

Do you need solitude to focus or do you thrive in a populated area? Will you get distracted at home or are you more comfortable exercising in your own space?

Some people use exercise as an outlet for stress and this may require isolation during exercise.

Do you have enough space?

Although a home gym can be optimized to fit whatever space you have available, you still want to make sure it makes sense.

For example, it wouldn't make much sense to build an Olympic style home gym in a studio apartment.

What is your experience level?

Are you confident in your ability to perform exercises safely and correctly or do you need instructors and trainers?

People just starting out may require one on one training compared to someone who has the fundamentals down.

Conclusion

Ultimately, this decision requires you to think practically and to have some self-awareness. If you take these questions into serious consideration, you will be able to make an informed decision.

It is important to remember that this is a big part of creating your fitness lifestyle and that the choice should align with your goals.
